CHIJ and Our School

Mattawa McElligott District School is taking part in a national Internet
adventure called the Canadian Heritage Interactive Journey!

The goal of the CHIJ is to turn Canadian geography, history and culture
into an exciting adventure for students. The adventure begins on April 15
when three cycling teams set off on a nine-week journey of discovery
across Canada.

Each day on the journey the cycling teams will be posting updates
about their experiences and discoveries on a special web site at
www.chij.com . Our students will have a chance to email the cyclists
and ask them questions, plus take part in chat rooms and contests.
Through the Internet, we will be on a virtual tour of Canada!

M.M.D.S. is one of just 80 host schools for this journey, representing
more than 1 200 schools across Canada! We will welcome team 1 to
Mattawa and into our school on the morning of Monday, June 14, 1999.

The day of the cyclists' visit, our school will host the CHIJ web site.
At that time, this independent site will link with
www.chij.com and we
will tell all of Canada about our community! Over the next few weeks
staff and students will be busy preparing to celebrate our heritage
first together as a school and then with all people across the nation
participating in this virtual adventure.
