Wildlife Around Mattawa
By Melissa, Grade 6, with family photos
With regret, the images have gone missing at least temporarily.
With luck they will have been found, perhaps online, for Version 2.
They were such GOOD photos!

In and around Mattawa there are many kinds of animals. One is the white-tailed deer. In our area we also have the largest member of the deer family which is the moose. The most common place that you would find them would be in Algonquin Provincial Park and in Samuel de Champlain Provincial Park. Wolves would also be found in the area because they feed on the deer, moose and small animals like the beaver. Another large animal found in the area is the black bear. The black bear is an omnivore, which means it eats meat and plants. There are many kinds of birds here as well. The blue jay stays here all year round while the other birds migrate to the south. The chickadee is another bird that stays here all year round. The chickadee got its name from the sound it makes, chickadee-dee-dee-dee. The robin, which migrates, comes back when winter is over, it is a sign that spring is here. The robin has a red breast and is a grayish, brownish colour on the top. So if you're ever going travelling you should stop by Mattawa and area and see our wildlife!
