VOYAGEUR BRIGADE
Part 2 of HANDS-ON HERITAGE

A favourite among the participants, this activity
really brought home the work of the Voyageurs who
used freight canoes to travel up the Mattawa and
and other rivers to explore and to trade for furs.

Our Vice-Principal,
Mary Lou Rainville,
joins the brigade!

A long paddle is used by the steersman
when many people paddle. It is really
needed in white water.

"This is how you hold the paddle.
Watch how you stroke on the voyageur
canoe. Let's take time to practise."

Scra-aa-pe "NnnNGGGH! Push!"

All right, all together now!
One of three voyageur canoes
in the brigade on Moore Lake

The paddlers in this voyageur canoe
share greetings with a passing boat.
"1..2..3..Salut!".
