---- The voyageurs used it, our animals
used it, they drink from it and I'm sure
all of you have swum in it. This is our
Mattawa River that has been designated
to the Canadian Heritage River System.
---- Our river is one of ten rivers to be
chosen all across Canada. Our own
Mattawa River has been a crucial link
for more than 6000 years.
---- All of you are probably thinking
they hadn't even discovered Canada
6000 years ago.
-----
---- Well they didn't but it has been a
spillway which has drained into a series
of Great Lakes for 6000 years.
---- Our Mattawa River held a very
important link in the great canoe route
between Montreal and the West. It was
chosen for its natural, cultural and
---- human heritage values and recreational
opportunities.
