Enjoying
Northern Country Life

By Neil, Grade 5

Hello, my name is Neil.
I have lived in Mattawa for about two years now.
I'm eleven years old and I go to Mattawa McElligott
Elementary School, and I am in grade five.
My teacher is Mr Jackson.

I like living in Mattawa because it is nice
and peaceful. There is a lot to see in Mattawa
like the Mattawa hockey team, the Timber Train
and the portage.

My picture shows the backyard of my
grandparents' place. They own up to the main lake.
It is a pretty area.

There are four river channels. One of the
river channels you can not go up, because it is
too rocky, but above the rocky part there is a
river that leads in to the lake. There is another
channel that leads to my friend's house.

Oh ya one of the channels has the best
fishing spot in the area. All kinds of fish are
there such as pike, bass, suckers and others
such as small sunfish and rock bass.
If you go up one of the other channels
there is a big rock that my uncle's house boat
gets stuck on.
I really like going to my grandparents' home
because I get to do a lot of outdoor activities.
