Below, all photos can be
enlarged by clicking on the
small photo.
It was our first student page
to use "thumbnails."
This was an experiment
to see how "thumbnails"
work inside a story...
.......Please correct me,
was it in 1997 or '96 ?

Have you ever dreamed of living somewhere where you can hear
wolves howling to the moon when you're trying to sleep?
..Or did
you ever have a mother bear with three cubs in your yard?
.I have.
This happened all the time in Eau Claire where I used to live.
Eau Claire is a beautiful place. . It is a small hamlet in the Near North of Ontario. . It is on highway 630, which
is the only road going into Algonquin Park on the north side.
. It is a French
community and Eau Claire means Clear Water in French..
There is lots of water
around there.
. Close to
our home were many
lakes, rivers, water falls
and a really cool gorge.
A near by town called Mattawa, which in Indian means "the meeting
of two rivers," is where I went to school.
.The Mattawa and Ottawa
rivers meet there and look nice.
. As you look across the rivers, you
see the foothills of the Laurentian Mountains of Quebec.
You can imagine that it is a huge tourist area.. In the spring the
traffic on our road is tripled as people come to kayak, canoe, hike,
camp and fish.
. Another nearby attraction is the Samuel de
Champlain Provincial Park. It has a great free museum that shows
you all about the early Canadian voyageurs.
. The Metis Indians
helped guide the first white men and they trapped hundreds of
thousands of animals each year and sent the pelts back to Europe.
The park was my favorite place because you can swim, canoe,
hike and learn about our country's history.

Hunting of deer, moose and bear brings lots of hunters in the fall.
Winter has the best snowmobile trails, cross-country
and downhill skiing and ice fishing.
. We see foxes,
raccoons and pheasant often but one time we saw
a cougar which is a rare thing to see.

What I liked best in Eau Claire were my friends and the
beautiful scenery.
.What I liked the least was that it was
really cold in the winter but there weren't bad snow storms,
so I never got to miss school! .Also the black flies were really bad in
the spring. It was a good place to live and would be a great place to
take your next vacation.
